ABSOLUT-LY Contemptible

Personally I do not drink Absolut, I favor Stoli.
My White Russians will continue to flow, as they always have.
Still yet this ad is ABSOLUT-LY infuriating.

Mexico reconquers California? Absolut drinks to that!

The latest advertising campaign in Mexico from Swedish vodka maker Absolut promises to push all the right buttons south of the U.S. border, but it could ruffle a few feathers in El Norte.


The billboard and press campaign, created by advertising agency Teran\TBWA and now running in Mexico, is a colorful map depicting what the Americas might look like in an “Absolut” — i.e., perfect — world.

The U.S.-Mexico border lies where it was before the Mexican-American war of 1848 when California, as we now know it, was Mexican territory and known as Alta California.

The campaign taps into the national pride of Mexicans, according to Favio Ucedo, creative director of leading Latino advertising agency Grupo Gallegos in the U.S.

National pride? Ha! If they have so damn much national pride, why do they leave that God forsaken third world wasteland in droves?

Ucedo, who is from Argentina, said: “Mexicans talk about how the Americans stole their land, so this is their way of reclaiming it. It’s very relevant and the Mexicans will love the idea.”

Mexicans are delusional, and if they think an ad fills their warped fantasy of re-claiming what is not theirs, then they are far more ignorant than I thought. And pardon me Ucedo your ad is about as relevant to real life as reality tv is to the real world. Talk about your fractured fairy tale.

But he said that were the campaign to run in the United States, it might fall flat.

Like a lead balloon.

L.A. Times blogger La Plaza recently reported that Absolut began a marketing campaign in Mexico called “In an Absolut World” showing a map (see above) of what the Americas might look like in an “Absolut” or, perfect, world.

Well, How about this for a little modification…

Really? Okay, then. I took the liberty of creating an ad for you. I’m sure your Russian market will love it.

As commenter making absurd bitey faces says in a thread below “The issue is whether it is right to obliterate a country in order to increase marketing in another?” A marketing campaign based on national pride doesn’t have to irritate the sensibilities of those in another large, alcohol-consuming country. The company has since “apologized” for the ad.

Go forth and voice your disgust! You know you wanna.

This particular ad, which ran in Mexico, was based upon historical perspectives and was created with a Mexican sensibility. In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues. Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.

What a side stepping egregious twit! I have news for her she made things worse. She should of kept her trap shut.

How about an ad of a former Sweden turned Islamic Caliphate. It is well on it’s way already. Heh. I’m just sayin’.
Scratch that. In that case there would be ABSOLUT-LY no vodka to be found (or any other alcohol to ward off the bitter Nordic chill). Alcohol is ABSOLUT-LY forbidden under Sharia law.
