ACLU Stops La. School District Bible Giveaways

April 23, 2008

Cross posted from Stop The ACLU

This is an article submitted to me via email from a woman named Michelle Lyons. She has no apologies for the religious references here. She doesn’t need to. In the spirit of this blog being a group blog with diverse opinions…I thought her article would fit right in.

Taken from FoxNews headlines Wednesday, April 23, 2008.

“The ACLU filed the lawsuit for an anonymous family whose daughter said she felt pressured into taking a Bible even though she doesn’t believe in God. The girl was called Jane Roe and her father John Roe out of fear of retaliation by schoolmates and neighbors, the ACLU has said.”

I went to the ACLU website to understand better their exact position on “freedom” and “religion”. This is what I found:

Religion in the Public Schools

One of the most hotly disputed – and most frequently misunderstood – issues involving religion in America is the role of religion in public schools. The airwaves are filled with rhetoric suggesting that the Supreme Court (or secular humanists!) took prayer, God, or religion out of the public schools. To clear up some of this confusion we should start with identifying what is constitutionally protected, and then look at what is constitutionally suspect.

First, children are free to pray in public schools either as individuals or in groups. In addition, whenever a teacher opens up an assignment topic for the children’s choice (such as which book to read, what to discuss in a talk to the class, or which song to sing), students may choose religious themes – and the ACLU has protected their right to do so. (Learn More) In addition, schools may offer courses about religion or about the Bible or other religious works. (REALLY?)

There are, however, two difficulties to which all should be aware. First, public schools themselves should not be in the business of promoting particular religious beliefs or religious activities. While it is permissible for public schools to teach about religion, it is not permissible to promote particular religious beliefs. Although public schools should not be leading children in prayers or religious ceremonies, they should also be respectful of the religious beliefs of students. Second, public schools should protect children from being coerced by others to accept religious (or anti-religious!) beliefs. Public schools should seek to create an environment conducive to learning by all students and not act as vehicles proselytizing for religious or anti-religious beliefs.

After reading the above referenced material regarding “Religion in the Public Schools” I was particularly struck by their use of the word “promoted”. I believe they should further define “promoted”. If we go back to the suit they have filed I believe we are observing “double-talk”! Frankly, I believe the ACLU has flown under the radar for far too long. Please go to their website and read their propaganda on FREEDOM and their position on many “RIGHTS”. They are a powerful presence in our country and hinder many Godly efforts. I found their use of the word “should” interesting in their propaganda (note the third paragraph). Should vs. “are not permitted”. The word “should” is suggestive as opposed to definitive and final. Interesting.

Listen America: their rhetoric is not LAW! They write it as if it is! They are anesthetizing our minds with LIES! Read the Mayflower Compact, read the Constitution. The documents that our country was founded on are amazing! The explorers commissioned from the King in England set out with the PURPOSE of colonizing, and THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH! In 1620 the document was drawn, and it reads:

In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereigne Lord, King James, by the Grace of God, of Great Britaine, France, and Ireland, Kin. Defender of the Faith, &c.

Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Hounour of our King and Country, a Voyage to plant the first colony in the Northerne Parts of Virginia; doe, by these Presents, solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and of one another……

The people who set sail in 1620 were clear in their assignment. They came here for the GLORY OF GOD AND ADVANCEMENT OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH. When was the last time you heard that in a debate of “the separation of church and state”? The whole phrase is another lie. There is no such phrase in the Constitution!

The ACLU believes that the religious education of children should be directed primarily by parents, families, and religious communities – and not the public schools. They are, in fact, public schools and not Sunday schools.

Again, the problem with the above statement is they are LYING! While they insist that we are FREE, they continue to limit and strip us of our freedom to act in accordance to our beliefs. We are unable to manifest our beliefs according to the commission to “Go! Go out into the world and spread the Good News”. That is part of our belief. Their website has this to say about our “freedom”:

Religion in the Public Square

Religion is pervasive in the public square in the United States – and it is constitutionally protected. The ACLU has long defended individuals, families, and religious communities who wish to manifest their religion in public. (Learn More) Particularly when compared to other industrialized democracies, religion plays a prominent role in American public life. Churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, cathedrals, and Gurdwaras are plainly visible in the public sphere and their right to display religious symbols and to construct religious edifices is protected by the Constitution and by statutes.[3] The ACLU has supported the right of people to preach their religion in public places and to go door-to-door to spread their religious messages. The Constitution properly protects the right of religious figures to preach their messages over the public airwaves. Religious books, magazines, and newspapers are freely published and delivered through the U.S. Postal System. No other industrialized democracy has as much religion in the public square as does the United States.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I was frustrated when I visited the site and searched for someone to contact regarding their inconsistencies and there was no one listed! No contact names, no email addresses!

If your question or concern was not listed here or in our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), please complete our online feedback form. Please note, however, that because of the high volume of email we receive each day, we cannot individually respond to each message. (taken from the ACLU website)

Only a mailing address and they include a disclaimer that “due to the high volume of mail they can not guarantee a response”. I suppose if I were OFFENDED by someone handing out a bible they would write back! Well guess what? I’m OFFENDED they are wasting tax payers money in the courts with such cases in their effort to “protect freedom”. They are full of fear and they should be! If people come to know the truth, the way, and the life….they are out of a job! I say “YOU’RE FIRED!” Write them and tell them!

Join together and pray! We are often encouraged to pray for our nation during an election…..I believe the ACLU is a bigger problem than any of the candidates running for office, unless of course a particular candidate is aligned with them, then we have an even bigger mess.

Having considered all the above, pause and consider what our children are consuming in the public school. Do we know? How long are we going to accept this? One woman petitioned the government for prayer to be struck from the schools and classrooms. One woman decided she wanted to terminate a life, a gift from God, and that led to decades of PROMOTED slaughter of babies. Well, what happens when MANY WOMEN say “No thanks ACLU!”? Please join me in prayer for the deliverance of the people who run this destructive organization! Pray that their eyes will be opened to the TRUTH, that they will be drawn to the TRUTH and that their efforts will wane in our judicial system. God wishes no one to perish. The people leading and following in this organization are DECIEVED! We must pray! I don’t profess to know what God wants to do about the ACLU, but I can’t imagine that He would want so many to be blinded by their lies.

My heart broke for the 5th grade girl in today’s article, who was reported to “not believe in God”. I pray today that the bible she received was a seed planted, and that over time, despite the plans of the wicked, she will draw near to the God who created her and loves her.
