“Re-create 68″: Planned Anarchy at the Democratic National Convention

May 29, 2008

A ccording to this article by Jeff Gould of Stop-Obama, there will be hell to pay at the Democratic Convention in Denver. A group who go by the not so subtle name of “Re-create 68” and are by all intensive purposes militant anarchists.

Have plans for the Democratic National Convention.

Big plans.

Obama Supporters Prepare Riots in Denver – Stop-Obama

[…]Obama supporters -lovers of popular democracy- are already threatening to tear down the Democratic Convention in Denver.

They call themselves “Recreate 68? (R68) and while they claim no association with Barack Hussein Obama, the facts speak otherwise:

1) Recreate 68’s claim of being both against Obama and Clinton, is false. While there are no traces of “official Obama campaign” input into R68, an Anti-Clinton spirit predominates, and considerable R68 contingents are active in the official Obama campaign- with direct ties to influential Obama activists.

2) Leading R68 coalition members have both a history of harassing the Clinton Campaign, and pledging financial support for Obama.

3) Leading R68 organizers make explicit reference to stopping “superdelages” and emphasize a “fight against racism” and equally, the need to protest in Denver with “victims of racism”. This obviously has nothing to do with Clinton, everything to do with Obama.

4) R68 core-rhetoric, a reference to “grassroots” and recreating the spirit of the “Civil Rights Era” nosedive with the Obama campaign message.

5) “Hard-Protest Action,” obstructive tactics such as road-blocks, seizing bridges, blocking delegate routs, and any other illegal activity, including violence are clearly being condoned. Recreate 68 – is far from just the “spirit of 68? – it is a real attempt to re-stage the past.

6) In the official Recreate 68 statement, Violence is not preached or expressly condoned, but just as in Chicago of 68, it is promoted as a “reaction” to inevitable police brutality. Illegal action such as obstruction, is bound to make intervention inevitable, and the protesters are gearing up for violent confrontation.

7) While official R68 statements emphasize “self-defense” – core coalition members of R68, explicitly prepare for violence.

“Recreate 68? seeks to recreate the spirit of the bloody Democratic National Convention of 1968 held in Chicago, and speaks with two heads. One head issues veiled threats to Denver authorities about inevitable conflict, another head claims it seeks to recreate not the blood of Chicago in 68, but the spirit of uprising and revolution permeating the globe in a year when Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy were assassinated, Czechoslovakia saw its independence crushed, Paris was set a blaze by students, and Chicago became an American sideshow.

Some illiterates in the media have dully bought into this two-headed doublespeak of recreating the spirit of 68. How ironic, considering that Chicago 68 were what is called a “police riot“! An attempt to first Recreate 68 in spirit, and if the authorities and police do not allow them to get away with it then recreate it in kind, is a Xerox copy of what actually occured in Chicago of 1968! When the “spirit” of 68 protesters and demonstrators became obstructive to the Convention and City of Chicago, police waged in and all hell broke loose.

[…]The irony of a Black candidate from Chicago, with ties to Black Preachers of Hate like Farrakhan and Wright, enjoying support from Hamas and the New Black Panther party, trying to seize the spirit of the sixties and recreate it in 21st century America, while a “grassroots” movement seeks to Recreate Chicago’68 at a Denver convention in order to strong-arm the DNC into granting him the nomination, will no doubt be lost on the mainstream media. As the abuse of history, for the egotistical purposes of one egomaniac, will be lost on the liberal intellectuals who incessantly rail against such abuses when practiced by anyone without the “liberal (self-hate) stamp of approval.”

What does “Re-create 68” have to say for themselves? What sort of chaos exactly do they have in mind? What are their goals, wishes, and dreams? Will they be peaceful little peacenicks? Or will chaos ensue? You how these types operate. They gather in large crowds and create a huge disruption then when told to cease and desist they cry like little babies. Making sure that their vocal response to authorities is well thought out beforehand. By practicing “Vocal control”

What’s in a Name/The True Meaning of Recreate 68
dnc disruption’

[…]Let us be clear: the name is not “Recreate Chicago 68” or “Recreate the DNC 68.” The idea that “Recreate 68” refers specifically to the events of late August 1968 in Chicago has been put out by those who wish to discredit an organization planning peaceful, nonviolent protests by associating it with what they would have us believe was a violent protest 40 years ago. Let us also be clear that those conducting this smear campaign are distorting history: what happened in Chicago in 1968 was not a violent protest, but rather a “police riot,” the term used by the Walker Commission, a body appointed by the Nixon administration to investigate the events surrounding the Chicago convention.[…]

[…]What then does the name Recreate 68 mean? The 1960s were a time of profound, positives social and political change in this country. The civil rights movement ended legal segregation and broke down barriers to the full participation of African Americans in American life (still yet to be fully achieved). Other movements followed that achieved the same for women and for other oppressed communities of color. That in 2008 the two leading candidates for the Democratic nomination for President are an African American man and a womansomething unimaginable at the start of the 60sis a direct result of the changes brought about in that decade.[…]

R-68 E-NEWS FLASH! November – ’07 (.pdf)

Update on the permit situation. The City of Denver has delayed their date for accepting
applications for permits from November 1 to some time close to the first of the year.
Probably trying to find a way to stop us from receiving ours. No big deal folks, we do
not need permission from the State to protest them. It is coming with or without a permit
Get ready Denver. Our legal team from the ACLU and the National Lawyers Guild are
looking into legal proceedings on the issue. As soon as a motion is filed, we will let you
all know.

The DNC People’s Law Project was formed by the Colorado National Lawyers Guild to ensure those voices are heard. We are a legal collective of lawyers, legal workers, and law students united for the purpose of defending the rights of protesters who bring a message of social justice to the 2008 DNC in Denver.

Shake Your Money Maker

It’s time to redistribute the wealth. Between security and corporate pay-offs, the DNC will cost over 100 million dollars for a party. We think the people deserve that money. Join us as we encircle the Denver Mint (where U.S. currency is produced) and use our collective power to raise the mint building in the air and shake the money out of it for the people. (Man oh man is that left wide open to interpretation /sarc).

(Updated) Call to Action- Disrupt the DNC!

Anarchists and Anti-Authoritarians: join us in Denver, Colorado, August 24th-28th as we engage in coordinated Direct Actions against the Democratic National Convention, its corporate sponsors, and the military/police occupation of public space. Respecting diverse tactics and the autonomy of affinity groups and individuals, Unconventional Action has created the following framework to maximize our impact as we disrupt the DNC.

Unconventional Action’s strategy at the Democratic National Convention will hold the Democratic Party accountable for promoting unjust policies: environmental degradation, the enforcement of arbitrary borders, attacks on the poor, complacency in war, and racist policing. We will expose to the nation that the Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin, both parties funded by the same corporations and upholding the same unjust political system which fails to meet the needs of the vast majority of people. Anarchists and Anti-Authoritarians are urged to engage in a broad variety of tactics to disrupt fundraising events and prevent Democratic delegates from voting for no-choice candidates. Unconventional Action will honor and support autonomous actions while coordinating a highly publicized assault on the pageantry, violence, and abuses of the Democrats and the two-party capitalist system.
Unconventional Action will target a variety of the 1,500 proposed fundraisers, countless delegate hotels, and designated institutions perpetuating global injustice. Using space reclamation, street theatre, direct confrontation, positive action, and a broad array of other tactics, we will force the national media to question the Democratic Party’s failures, hold Democratic candidates accountable for their abuses of power, and engage in
direct actions that reflect our ultimate goals of joy and liberation through creativity and confrontation.

Below we have outlined our anticipated schedule of direct action for the DNC.[…]

[…]Raise your voice and use your body to tell the world- WE VOTE NO!
In the afternoon delegates will be going through the ceremonial motions of nominating a pre-determined candidate. We reject this false choice, opting instead to create real democracy, agency and change ourselves. Choosing a different imperialist, capitalist candidate will not bring about the change we need, only we can do that. So, we will take this time to disrupt the spectacle that the Democrats claim as democracy by blocking the flow of delegates to the Pepsi Center. Again, this is a time to get creative with blockades, theatrics and other actions that bring light to the state’s march forward in disregard to people and the planet.

This is really scarry. The Left is really showing it’s true Stalionist instincts. Imagine if in a few years we have a new Cold War. Russia and China as the Capitalist powers vs. The US and Europe as the Communist powers.
    Putin, please liberate us!

My nick was given to me by a friend.
Meaning I can be nice as pie, but don’t piss me off.
I will only be pushed so far. Then look out! 😉
