Obama’s YouTube Campaign Donations Via Google Checkout Does Not State Legal Compliance

Shouldn’t it? Or am I missing something?

1 YouTube Campaign Contribution – contribution to a politician

Interestingly enough Barack Obama’s Fight The Smears home page has this posted on the sidebar under “Updates”, dated Tuesday, July 08, 2008. I am unable to embed the link. As it opens a pop up. I’ll post the relevant text here as is necessary to make my point.

Fake Maureen Dowd Column Alleging Obama’s Fundraising is Coming from Overseas Non-US Citizens

Fake Dowd column says, “It became clear that these donations were very likely coming from sources other than American voters. This was discussed at length within the campaign and the decision was made that none of these donations violated campaign financing laws. It was also decided that it was not the responsibility of the campaign to audit these millions of contributions as to the actual source (specific credit card number or bank transfer account numbers) to insure that none of these internet contributors exceeded the legal maximum donation on a cumulative basis of many small donations.

Donors to the Obama campaign are required to certify that they are U.S. citizens, and the campaign would not accept donations from foreign citizens

Obama donation page

Since the Obama Fight The Smears team is adamant about debunking the rumor of Obama’s campaign accepting donations from non-US citizens overseas. My point is, if they are so hell bent on smacking down that rumor why is it that the Obama YouTube team has added campaign donation availability to each and every one of his YouTube video pages leading to a Google checkout page that DOES NOT state the legal compliance???

The Legal Compliance as posted on his website donation page. As it should be.

Legal Compliance
Check this box to confirm that the following statements are true and accurate:

1. I am a United States citizen or a lawfully-admitted permanent resident.
2. I am at least 16 years old.
3. This contribution is not made from the general treasury funds of a corporation, labor organization or national bank.
4. This contribution is not made from the funds of a political action committee.
5. This contribution is not made from the treasury of an entity or person who is a federal contractor.
6. This contribution is not made from the funds of an individual registered as a federal lobbyist or a foreign agent, or an entity that is a federally registered lobbying firm or foreign agent.
7. The funds I am donating are not being provided to me by another person or entity for the purpose of making this contribution.

Again I ask shouldn’t the Google checkout page state the “legal compliance”? The location drop down does not (of course) only list the US.

It would behoove the Obama camp to note the legal compliance as would be contributers are donating.
    Not after they already have.

The page accepts donations before the legal compliance is stated? Not good enough.
At the very least that rises a red flag. They should be more careful and up front about it, in my opinion.

I’d be grateful if anyone who is knowledgeable on the legality regarding campaign contributions would clear this up.

    Speaking of red flags…!
Rafah Resident, Monir Edwan Donated $24,321.41 to Barack Obama’s Campaign!

A reader of the Atlas Shrugs blog has discovered a red flag among Barack Obama’s campaign contributions. A fellow by the name of Monir Edwan donated $24,321.41 to the Obama campaign, well over the legal limit. On Obama’s official filings with the Federal Election Commission it lists Edwan as a resident of Rafah GA. Problem is, no such town exists in the state of Georgia. But there is a refugee camp by that name – in the Gaza Strip.
