The Perry County Alabama Commission wins third place for creating “The Barack Obama Day”

MARION, Ala. (AP) – A small central Alabama county whose mainly black residents gave Barack Obama more than 70 percent of the vote on Election Day has created an annual holiday in honor of the president-elect.

The Perry County Commission voted 4 to 1 to observe the second Monday in November as “The Barack Obama Day.” County offices will close and its roughly 40 workers will get a paid holiday.

Lo and behold a voice of reason and from a Democrat. May wonders never cease.

Commissioner Brett Harrison (Democrat) said Wednesday he voted against the resolution because of the holiday costs to the county, which has a $2.2 million annual payroll and is one of the poorest in the state. He said closing the courthouse would also idle some state employees

Second place winner is Rep. Bobby Rush D-Ill. Who leaves a lot to be desired in what was supposed to be a “post-racial” America. I must of been living under a rock because I had no idea affirmative action was how replacement Senators were chosen.

The race to replace Barack Obama as Illinois’ junior senator heated up Tuesday as Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., called on Gov. Rod Blagojevich to name a black man or woman to the seat.

By invoking race, Rush, who is black, drove a potential wedge between the prospective white and black contenders for the seat. Rush said it would be a “national disgrace” if Obama’s seat were not filled by an African American.

“As we speak, there are no African Americans in the Senate. (Blagojevich) has the power to put one there.”

I beg Bobby’s pardon but what I see as a national disgrace is the fact that race playing fools like him represent citizens. Ooops what am I saying? Barack Obama is Prez-Select isn’t he?

Never mind…

The first place winner is Seattle-based artist Deborah Lawrence “Art is [indeed] in the eye of the beholder”

That controversial ornament calling for President Bush’s impeachment? Won’t hang in the White House after all.

Sidebar: What is with the “?” after the statement “calling for President Bush’s impeachment”? Is “The Reliable Source” assuming President Bush may [still] be impeached? Wishful thinking on his/her part?

“Oh, dear,” said Seattle-based artist Deborah Lawrence, who created the red and white ornament that salutes Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) and his support for a resolution to impeach the president. “This doesn’t really surprise me. But it’s disappointing that I won’t get to see it on the tree.”

Cry me a river of crocodile tears. The twit knew her tacky ornament would never be officially hung on the White House Christmas tree. But…the publicity she will receive (Lawrence was promoting an art book of hers as recently as last May BTW) is priceless.

Sally McDonough, a spokeswoman for the first lady, confirmed the ornament would not be displayed. “It’s inappropriate and it’s not being hung,” she said

Of course it is “inappropriate”. Deborah Lawrence is a full blown jackass for submitting it.

Comment left on article I must share!

What a charming woman! Perhaps she can send along the bowl she puts on her head when she cuts her hair as well. The Bush’s can use it for Holiday treats.

I don’t care who you are if you don’t at least get a giggle out of that you have no sense of humor.

I’d like to get it back, but that’s probably not going to happen,” said Lawrence, 55. She was speaking from the White House, surveying its lawn. “I’ve never seen so many Christmas trees, and I don’t like Christmas. Even if my ornament were here, I wouldn’t be able to find it.”

Hey Deb White House dumpster diving may be your only option.
