Feminist Bloggers & N.O.W. Speak Louder We Can't Hear You

When Rape Fantasies Involve Conservative Women, Feminists Are Silent
A vicious article drew nary a peep of outrage from the “sisterhood.”
– Melissa Clouthier

Who is worse? The abuser, the attacker is worse. But we are revulsed and disgusted by the people who aid and abet and ignore the perpetrators, and rightly so.

Last week, ten women were the subject of a cyber-rape. That is, without their consent, they were subjected to one misogynist, Guy Cimbalo, and his rape fantasies, which appeared in his Playboy article titled “Ten Conservative Women I’d Like To Hate F***.” (The article has since been taken down.)

[snip]

So imagine, if you will, that the list consisted of liberal women bloggers. Imagine if Amanda Marcotte, Jane Hamsher, Jill from Feministe,  and some of the more vocal feminist bloggers made up the list. Right now, they’re all upset over a National Review caricature of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. (It’s called satire. Remember this?)

First, the list would never be made. Why? Because Playboy considers liberal women to be sympathetic compatriots. Ironically enough, they’re on the same team.

Second, the outrage would be vocal and ubiquitous.[…]

Bonnie Erbe: Noted Viper Michelle Malkin Invited The Playboy Rape Fantasy – Jenn Q. Public

[…]I also want to note that at least one woman on the list is so venom-spewing, she unfortunately invites venom to be shot back at her: Michelle Malkin.

That’s right, she was asking for it.

Erbe was prompted to address the Playboy piece by Smart Girl Politics co-founder Teri Christoph.

Upon seeing Erbe’s response, Christoph asked, “This is feminism?!” […]

Quote from original Playboy Guy Cimbalo article “So Right, It’s Wrong” [Screen shots of article here.]

Obama promised us the dream of post-partisanship—a cuckoo land where party affiliation and factional animosity were forgotten. Turn on cable news or open any newspaper, however, and you’ll quickly discover that the dream has yet to materialize. But there is a way to reach across the aisle without letting principles fall by the wayside. We speak, naturally, of the hate [f**k]. We may despise everything these women represent, but goddammit they’re hot. Let the healing begin. [Note: Asterisks inserted]

The Twittersphere was all over this story,  Guy Cimbalo (gvcimbalo) himself promoted it as if he were proud of his vicious attack.

the hate has already begun for my vile little épaterjoin in the funhttp://is.gd/LDN5 12:15 PM Jun 1st from web

What a pitiful excuse for a man. A pathetic emasculated liberal taking his perhaps lack of manhood and virility out on intelligent conservative females. I have long theorized liberal men are intimated by strong intelligent conservative women.

Before anyone fires back at me for not posting on this earlier. Just so you know I tweeted on it the day it broke and as a matter fact sent the tweet directly to “Guy Cimbalo”

@conservatweet The misogynistic POS who fantasies about raping conservative women on PlayBoy is on twitter – @gvcimbalo

ABC’s The View Host Elisabeth Hasselbeck [one of the targets in Cimbalo’s vile disgusting misogynistic article] goes after Playboy for publishing the rape fantasy piece. She also contacted NOW and reports on the statement they had given her regarding the Playboy article.

H/T JennQPublic

Text of statement from NOW as reported by Elizabeth Hasselbeck in above video snippet.

The truth is, that we live in a rape culture, and the fact that the company promoted this piece on it’s website, illustrated–along with the writer–do not think much about the empowerment of women, and when their opinion’s different than theirs, they want them humiliated.

Since NOW has not published a press release onsite [either the one above as told to Elizabeth or any other] on the Playboy Guy Cimbalo hate f**k article then the weak outrage they express [in their statement to Elizabeth Hasselbeck] rings hollow. Screenshot below taken –  June 9 2009.

Help NOW secure equality and fair treatment for all women.
Do conservative women count?

Well the National Organization for Women (NOW) does tout itself as a non-partisan organization.

No, NOW is a non-partisan organization. Candidates of all political parties are eligible for endorsement by NOW/PAC and by state and local NOW Political Action Committee.

Though according to Discover the Networks

NOW has received funding from the Baker Street Foundation, the American Express Foundation, the California Endowment, the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, the Fannie Mae Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Hilton Foundation, the New York Community Trust, the Philadelphia Foundation, the ChevronTexaco Foundation, the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, the New World Foundation, the New York Times Company Foundation, the Rockefeller Family Fund, the Shefa Fund, the Target Foundation, the Vanguard Public Foundation, and George Soros‘s Open Society Institute.

and The Capital Research Center their claim falls far from the truth.

Ideological Rating (2) (1=Radical Left/8=Free Market Right)
The number above represents CRC’s rating of the organization along an ideological spectrum.

So I’d say not so much… But why should politics get in the way of defending women from hateful rape fantasies no matter what side of the political spectrum they come from? The one caught in the revolting act or those who should step up and denounce the culprit.

Thanks for the hat tip on the Hasselbeck video.

I just wanted to mention that one feminist organization, The New Agenda, was outraged enough to republish my blog post on Guy Cimbalo’s hateful fantasy. Although many of their positions skew to the left, I appreciated their willingness to strongly and publicly condemn Cimbalo’s misogyny.

    Jenn
Thanks again for the tip and you are welcome. I have since updated my post with an excerpt from your article “Bonnie Erbe: Noted Viper Michelle Malkin Invited The Playboy R**e Fantasy” –Unbelievable
I have to insert asterisks into your title my blog would not allow r**e in a comment. I did not know that. Strange…

The New Agenda republishing your post is great news. Good on them.

Yeah, I thought it was odd when the first comment I tried to leave was rejected because I used the word “grape” minus the g.

This whole incident, from the original article being published to the sickening reactions on the left, is still turning my stomach. It gets tiresome, but we have to call these creeps out every time they attack a woman this way. And thanks for the link – much appreciated.

To be perfectly honest, Mr. Cimbalo seems to be aware that he wouldn’t want to engage in forced sexual intercourse with a female of the liberal persuasion – after all, they seem to all be a bunch of knuckle-dragging, hairy, smelly lesbians.
